Position Summary

 

We currently have a great opportunity for a Staff Tax Analyst who will effectively work with the tax team on fixed asset maintenance, federal & multi-state tax compliance, and jurisdictional notices/examinations.  Experience with tax fixed assets systems (like BNA) is an important component of the responsibilities for this role, as are advanced MS Excel skills.

Key Accountabilities
• Review financial accounting fixed assets additions & retirements, prepare tangible property calculations, and incorporate into tax fixed asset system

• Ensure tax depreciation and amortization are properly calculating by developing processes that minimize risk 

• Prepare fixed asset roll forward schedule quarterly (including reconciliation between book and tax cost basis), Form 4562, and depreciation projections (federal & state) to be used on tax returns and in tax provision calculations 
• Provide information to outside service providers in order to complete the federal, state, and international income tax returns 

• Review externally-prepared state tax income & franchise tax returns  

• Research and apply for state & local tax credit opportunities
• Support federal and state income tax audits and prepare responses for appeals and government information requests and tax notices
• Create electronic workpapers and information gathering questionnaires

• Assist with data entry and linking for Onesource Tax Provision import/export calculations

• Research best tax compliance practices and create compliance routines in accordance to changing tax laws

• Additional duties as assigned 

 

Skills, Abilities, Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, CPA preferred
• 2+ years’ experience in a corporate environment or public accounting firm
• Knowledge of multistate tax filing issues and process
• Proficient use of BNA Fixed Assets (or similar fixed asset software)

• Experience with Onesource Tax Provision, a plus

• Knowledge of applicable tax laws required
• Ability to adhere to inflexible deadlines for tax reporting
• Strong analytical, research, critical thinking, and decision making skills
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner, ensuring compliance requirements are consistently met
• Ability to prioritize, problem solve, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with all levels internally and externally
• Demonstrated ability to pay strict attention to detail, with a commitment to delivery of quality and accurate work products
• Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team with little supervision
• Demonstrated ability to consistently display a positive attitude, and willingness to work effectively and efficiently within an environment where priorities constantly change
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Outlook, and Excel
• Authorized to work for any employer in the United States
• Ability to pass a thorough background check 

 

Work Environment, Physical & Mental Demands

 

• Ability to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
• Ability to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
• Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally
• Must utilize visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment
• Ability to work at least 40 hours per week from the Company’s Houston, Texas corporate office
