Position Summary:

We have an exciting new position for an Indirect Tax Accountant. This position will be handling most of the accounting related functions for the indirect tax department for the company and its affiliates. The primary responsibility of the Indirect Tax Accountant is to ensure the accuracy of indirect tax accruals, account reconciliations, and to create process efficiencies. 


Key Accountabilities:

• Perform indirect tax accruals, account reconciliations, journal entries, research, and other tax accounting related functions

• Coordinate with outside tax consultants on various projects 

• Develop strategies that maximize efficiencies in indirect tax functions

• Review and perform detailed monthly analysis related to indirect tax accruals

• Assist with various tax audits including both planning and defense for all assigned areas of taxation

• Perform indirect tax research projects as appropriate and provide other indirect tax technical support as needed

• Participate in the ongoing development and implementation of indirect tax planning strategies

• Assist with property tax filings, payments, and audit requests as needed

• Additional duties as assigned 


Skills/Abilities/Experience & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

• 3+ years of detailed accounting experience (tax accounting preferred)

• Experience working with various software platforms (Peoplesoft, PTMS, and Microsoft preferred)

• Advanced Excel skills required

• Ability to develop property tax, sales/use tax, VAT, and unclaimed property technical expertise

• Willingness and ability to develop understanding of additional areas of taxation as needed

• Working knowledge of financial accounting reporting and procedures 

• Understanding of data analytics, database collection, development, and maintenance

• Ability to communicate complex situations to employees within the organization

• Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver results ahead of deadlines 

• Strong critical and analytical thinking skills and problem solving capabilities 

• Team oriented, works well with others and requires little supervision. Must be a self-starter with an enthusiastic and positive attitude

• Houston, Texas area resident

• Authorized to work for any employer in the United States

• Ability to pass a thorough background check


Work Environment, Physical and Mental Demands:

• Ability to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time

• Ability to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach on a daily basis

• Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally

• Must utilize visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment

• Hours regularly exceed 40 hours per week
