We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Planning and Allocation to join our Merchandising team in our headquarters in Fremont, CA.


As the Director of Merchandise Planning & Allocation you will manage the Planning and Allocation team to develop and review merchandise plans and manage Open-To-Buy (OTB) strategies.This role works as an integral part of the Merchandising, Planning/Replenishment teams by identifying risks/opportunities and making recommendations to ensure that we are maximizing our inventory investment.


The Director of Planning & Allocation is responsible for achieving sales, margin, and inventory objectives for the Company working in conjunction with the Merchant team.This responsibility includes managing the development and successful execution of topside and detail merchandising plans, assortment/buy plan, and merchandise distribution strategies. 


This position reports to the SVP of Planning. This is an experienced management position that interacts regularly with all areas of the Company - Merchandising, Stores, Creative Services, Marketing, Internet, Distribution



Job Responsibilities: 

• Manage the performance, training, and personal development of the Planning & Allocation team, with a focus on building bench strength. 

• Collaborates with the Merchants to develop the annual merchandise sales, gross margin, inventory, and markdown plans for the Company, down to the class and assortment level. 

• Manages the open-to-buy process and inventory level to ensure an in-stock position and maximize stock turns.  Create Financial Plans and line item Buy Plans Seasonally. 

• Identify business opportunities by analyzing sales and Inventory performance.   Provide adhoc/comprehensive business analysis to your Merchant business partners.

• Prepares and analyzes system reports to maximize sales, gross margin, and manage inventory levels to established budgets. 

• Recommend and reallocate resources in partnership with Merchants based on business performance. 

• Ensure that the Allocator’s properly manage the timing and quantity of receipts of new and existing product flow into the stores. 

• Staff Development o Trains and develops the P&A team. o Participates in team’s activities and helps to support and develop a team environment. 

• Work with all retail partners to maximize the sales and develop regional assortments .   Lead with the voice of the customer. 

• Manage the Replenishment inventories at the SKU level.   

• Ensures liquidation of discontinued products. 


Skills, Abilities, Experience & Qualifications
• College degree 
• 10 plus years related work experience in Planning and/or Allocation, with a minimum of 5 years of planning management experience 
• Experience working in a high volume, fast paced, specialty retail environment 
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills 
• Strong analytical skills, strong comprehension of numbers and strong math skills 
• Technical knowledge in PC based systems and application software (systems like: JDA Replenishment, Microstrategies, Logility/MID Planning are a plus) 
• Proven ability to lead and build productive cross-functional relationships with strong written and verbal communication skills. 
• Experience working both independently and in a team oriented environment 
• Strong attention to detail. 
• Tailored Clothing experience would be a plus. 

Work Environment, Physical & Mental Demands
• Ability to work at least 40 hours per week from the Company’s Fremont, California corporate office with flexibility based on project needs
